About Us

Welcome to Black and Beale, a lifestyle brand rooted in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. Founded in the Fall of 2019 by native Memphian Sha' Hughes, our brand draws inspiration from the rich history and vibrant culture of the 901. Whether you're looking for stylish apparel, unique accessories, or novelty gifts, Black and Beale offers exclusive products that celebrate Memphis's one-of-a-kind spirit.

With a background in apparel and accessory merchandising, Sha' is fueled by her passion for all things Memphis, Tennessee. She considers herself a "Memphis aficionado," eager to create products that are organically inspired by her favorite place in the world.

Her hunger to create began at an early age and progressed as the years went by. It was during her time at Overton High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, that she was introduced to graphic design software, such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Her love for creating graphic design pieces has grown vastly ever since.

Sha' believes in the value of creativity. When art is meshed with the things that you love, you create a work of happiness. Happiness is what she creates with each and every product you find at Black and Beale.

Black and Beale's name pays homage to the enduring legacy of Beale Street and trailblazers like Robert Church, the South’s first Black millionaire, who transformed this historic district into a hub for Black excellence, entrepreneurship, and culture. From the soulful sounds of blues and jazz to the unwavering resilience of the community, Beale Street has long been a symbol of empowerment and creativity.

At Black and Beale, we are more than a brand—we are a celebration of Memphis. We proudly partner with local creatives and entrepreneurs to honor the city’s diverse talents while fostering a connected and thriving community. Every purchase you make helps us support our mission to uplift Memphis culture, embrace collaboration, and build a more inclusive and equitable future.

Thank you for being part of our journey and for supporting the legacy of Memphis through Black and Beale. 'Preciate y'all!
